Money Orders
You can cash in MoneyGram, including money orders that have been purchased in our locations.
If you cash a money order on the same day it has been purchased you will not be charged a cashing fee (because we can cancel the money order). However, we must charge a fee for cashing any money order at least a day old because then it must be processed like a check. We charge the usual check cashing fee of 1.95%.
First of all, never leave a money order blank. As soon as you buy it, fill it out. Money orders are like cash - especially if they are left blank. Although there is no guarantee, if you lose a money order we will do everything we can to help you recover the money.
If you lose a money order, follow these instructions to report the loss to
MoneyGram.
1. If you have no proof of purchase, but know the serial number and the dollar amount of the money order, obtain a money order Tracing/Refund Request form from the store location where you purchased the money order.
2. Contact MoneyGram at 1-800-MONEYGRAM to have the Customer Service Representative send you an affidavit form.
3. Follow the instructions on both forms. Complete and sign the Tracing/Refund Request form. Then, complete, sign, and have the affidavit notarized.
4. Mail both forms to the address listed on the Tracing/Refund Request form for processing.
5. Include a non-refundable processing fee.
If, when we receive your request, the money order has not been cashed,
MoneyGram will generally issue a refund within 30 days after they complete their investigation.
MoneyGram may require a bond or other form of acceptable security before issuing a refund.
If you do not know the serial number or the dollar amount and are unable to provide proof of purchase, your request for refund may be denied.
